For a nation where nearly 59% of the population lives below the poverty line, this creates a profound barrier to education, rendering it a privilege reserved for the few who can afford it.
The financial strain is a harsh reality for many Haitian families, including my own. I vividly remember the struggles we faced to access basic education—a burden shared by countless children in Haiti. Despite the odds, my mother’s resilience was unwavering.
She took on the role of a market vendor, working tirelessly to ensure I could attend kindergarten and first grade. Her sacrifice not only laid the foundation for my education but also instilled in me the value of perseverance in the face of adversity.
In 2010, Haiti faced an unprecedented tragedy with a devastating earthquake that reshaped the lives of millions. Prior to the disaster, my mother served as a cook for Christian Light School Ministries, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting local communities (Christian Light Haiti).
When the earthquake struck, we lost our home, leaving us without a place to turn.
In the midst of this crisis, the organization became our sanctuary. We found refuge and renewed hope at the Christian Light Children’s Home, located on the ministry’s campus. This critical period in our lives not only provided shelter but also a foundation of resilience and stability, inspiring us to rebuild and move forward with a renewed sense of purpose.
In time, Ms. Hasson felt called by God to expand her mission of care and compassion. This vision led to the establishment of REV HOME under the Global Partners organization (Global Partners). The name “REV” holds special meaning in Haitian Creole, translating to “dream.” True to its name, Ms. Hasson and her team poured their hearts into making this dream a reality, caring for us as if we were their own children.
At REV HOME, we were provided not only with a safe and nurturing environment but also access to education that paved the way for a brighter future. To further support our growth, the organization launched Rev Café, a coffee shop that helped fund our college education. I had the privilege of working there while pursuing my studies, an experience that taught me valuable skills and reinforced the importance of giving back.
My journey of community service began in 2019 when I started assisting with feeding programs in my mother’s community. These experiences laid the foundation for a deeper purpose. By 2022, I felt a profound calling to go beyond individual acts of assistance and address a larger vision: restoring hope and opportunity to the children of Haiti. Many of these children face overwhelming challenges and are often unaware of their right to education, love, and the ability to dream of a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
At 21 years old, I founded Grace for Haiti’s Children, an organization inspired by my faith and a deep gratitude for God’s guidance. This initiative reflects my belief in the transformative power of collective efforts to uplift children in need. Grace for Haiti’s Children is more than a nonprofit—it is a movement to ensure every child has the chance to thrive.
Our mission is encapsulated in the slogan, "One Child at a Time, to Empower Haiti’s Future." This principle is deeply personal, as it stems from my journey as a child whose life was transformed by opportunity. Today, I am committed to creating the same possibilities for Haiti’s youth, enabling them to dream beyond their circumstances and envision a brighter, stronger future for themselves and their country.
Together, we can confront the unseen challenges and pave the way for a healed and hopeful Haiti.
"Healing a nation starts with confronting the unseen."
